Assisting Ukrainian Refugees
Effective Aid Ukraine’s involvement with Ukraine began with convoys of Teslas.
In 2022, in the weeks and months after the full–scale invasion of Ukraine, Effective Aid Ukraine, in association with the Tesla Owners Group, conducted four convoys to Poland and Germany to bring back refugees. At a time when Ukrainians fleeing the war did not know where to turn to, or whom to trust, our convoy initiative was endorsed both by the newly-formed support group, Ukrainian Action in Ireland, and by the Embassy of Ukraine to Ireland.
As the war continued, Effective Aid Ukraine teamed up with Galway Tours, an Irish tour company, and with Free & Caring, a Ukrainian NGO, to help those worst affected, mainly mothers with children whose homes were destroyed by the war. Effective Aid Ukraine and its partners travelled with refugees from Ukraine to Poland where they were flown to Dublin. At this stage some moved directly to Irish–Government–supplied accommodation. Others were collected by members of the Tesla Owners Group and moved to host accommodation sourced in many cases with the help of the Irish Red Cross and Helping Irish Hosts.
In May 2022 Effective Aid Ukraine teamed up with Rubikus, an international charity registered in Germany that coordinates efforts to assist Ukrainian refugees who have been brought to camps in Russia, either forcibly by the Russian army, or of their own volition in the case of Ukrainian refugees who have found themselves behind enemy lines with no other means of escape. We assisted a number of those escaping from Russian camps to make their way to Ireland.
Effective Aid Ukraine helped 1,224 Ukrainian refugees move to Ireland.
